Contacts wiped for no reason!

iPhone messages and whatsapp were frozen so I switched my iPhone4 off and back on again and then my contacts were gone! My favourites are still there but only in the form of numbers. My messages and whatsapp also have no names associated with the numbers anymore. Tried to re-save my favourites by creating a new contact but the iPhone then decides to associate a completely different person's image with the contact.

I didn't do anything strange, did not download an update (running iOS 5.1.1 as I love my google maps too much), no new apps, nothing different at all. Just went to send a text and the messages app would just keep taking me back to the home screen so switched the device on and off.

SO ANGRY!

Any ideas as to how to get them back? And why did this happen in the first place?

This exact same thing just happened to me right now, only a day apart from you. An error in the programming? I synced to iCloud and got some of them back, but none that I had added in the past year. Very irritating.

Mine did the same this morning. It kept flicking me back to the home page so Iturned it off. When I turned it back on ALL contacts were gone. I have never synced my phone or plugged it into a computer to back it up.. Please help me get my contacts back.........

I gave up on trying to get them back so had to go to my texts and guess who is who from there!

It's an absolute joke, and it made me realise how awful Apple's customer care is once your out of warranty!
