How do I install git 1.6.0 or better on my mbp?

I am taking an html5 class & we are going to be using Aptana Studio 3. I keep getting a error saying that I need to install git 1.6.0 or higher. After some research I have determined that ML does not have git. Can someone help me with this? I have made an appointment with the Genius Bar to see if they can help me.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Given that you may have more than one copy of Git installed, it's worth making sure which one the system thinks you have.

You can do that by launching terminal and issuing at the prompt the following commands which are shown with sample answers:

mike:~ mikeold$ which git /usr/local/git/bin/git mike:~ mikeold$ git --version git version 1.8.0.2
