I am getting a trojan horse error from AVG: usbaapl64.sys trojan horse PSW.Generic10.BPRR

AVG has blocked my Iphone from connecting to my computer saying that usbaapl64.sys is infected with a trojan horse: PSW.Generic10.BPRR

It won't connect to itunes or even charge at this point.

Can I download a new usbaapl64.sys file from a trusted source? Or how can I fix this?

It sounds like the Apple USB driver ON your PC is infected.... not your iPhone

Thre are a number of Google articles on this particularly nasty Trojan.

It sounds like you need to get rid of this Trojan and then Google for that USB driver.

Hope this helps a bit.

I am having the same problem, worse still that it happened while my iPhone was synching. Now my iPhone cant be switched on at all, it's stuck at the "installing" screen, prompting me to sync with iTunes. Does anyone know if I should be permanently deleting the drivers that's currently in my AVG vault? And hope to reinstall iTunes plus the whole works? Please help..

I had to go to work so I can't try this myself, but if someone else is sufficiently desperate...

Download another virus scanner. Get a free trial of trendmicro, norton, whatever. Specifically ask it to scan that file (usbaapl64.sys). If it comes up clean, then it indicates that it is a false positive from AVG. It's not terribly unusual for virus scanners to do this. Get several other scanners if you want to be sure.

There are settings in AVG that can whitelist specific files, so at that point just use your original file and go on with life.

However, if the other scanners agree that it is infected, all of us got infected at the same time. Scary stuff.

if you disable your <<RESIDENT SHIELD>> the problem is solved but the thing is I don't want to disable my resident shield forever so the problem is really on AVG side

so this work for a workaround but not for a permament solution, so disable you resident shield before plugged in your iphone and do whatever you need to do and when you are done reactivate the resident shield....hope AVG will fix this bug

Hello,

I faced today the same problem and I procedeed as follows:

1. Uninstall iTunes & Apple Mobile Device Support

2. In Device Manager I found an Apple device (cannot remember the name) and I removed it (uninstall)

3. Reinstall iTunes.

4. I switched off the Iphone (Home + Power Button simultaneously). The Iphone was not connected to the PC

5. I keep pressed the Home button and I connected the Iphone to the PC. Then the PC has started to install the drivers and then it could see it is connected to an uninstalled Iphone and reinstall it.

Good luck,

Ovidiu

I had the exact same issue, but I finally got it fixed.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling AVG to their latest free version, but it still didn't fix it.

Then I followed the steps here:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1538

Item 5 Verify that the Apple Mobile Device USB Driver is installed

Updated the driver and navigated to the driver file just as the directions describe. (Which by the way happens to be the file that AVG was seeing as a threat.) After the update, I plugged in my phone and it worked fine.

Hope it works for everyone.
