iOS 6.1 bug: Browser does not play in background

Hi everyone!

I updated to iOS 6.1 a few days ago and now I experience a very annoying issue.

Before the update - I could play media from the browser (Safari/Chrome) and now it does not work.

Here is an example:

Open a youtube video in the browser and start playing it.

Once it started playing - press the home button to go to the desktop.

Now press the home button twice to open the task bar and slide it to the left to open the media player controls.

Press play - NOTHING HAPPENS!

It used to work before the update.

It also does not work if you go to the desktop, then lock the screen, press home twice and then press play.

Could you guys also test this?

Now I registered as an Apple deveoper in order to file a bug report, but I can't do it!

When I click on the bug reporter link it sends me to the page which tells me that I need to register as an Apple developer, which just did!

Can someone please test this and file a report if this issue occurs on your device.

Thanks in advance!

It’s been annoying me for three days after I upgraded to iOS6.1 on Tuesday 5th Feb. Before it was one of the most useful feature I found in iphone and I use it almost every day. I feel lucky that I have not updated my new iPad yet – which I will not do. I posted a thread in a forum but no one seems to have experienced this except me.

I can still playback video and press lock screen (power button on top), then double press home to continue playing. Just not working when I use other apps. Any one else the same?

I feel your pain mate, I've been using this feature a lot too.

The whole iOS 6 seems like a complete mess of an update.

Does it also work if you first go to another app and then lock the screen?

This is why I regret buying a droid. Apple can't even get something this small right.

Google is going to hand Apple their *** on a silver platter soon enough of this **** keeps up. Im so disappointed in iOS 6.1. YemSalat said it right, its a complete mess.

Come one Apple. They have 10 billion dollars in cash on their books but they can't put out a decent operating system?

Apple has become the ultimate machine to separate n00bs from their money, nothing else.

If you want a decent phone, get a droid.

Sorry for the rant. Just really ****** I can't listen to music in the background anymore.

OK, Ladies ;-)

Time to stop grumble and start working.

First of all there is an app which is still able to play music in the background, it even has configurable playlist!

There is a free version which has limited playlist size to 10 videos/songs and full version for only 2$.

And NO, I'm not the author ;-)

Second: I've found russian website which properly plays songs in the background: http://bit.ly/WWpvOx

Conclusion: it is possible to play videos/music in the background after iOS update. Probably apps used for it must also be updated due to different API commands or something like that.

I'm not an expert, but it looks like the neatly written apps and sites are still working. Question of programs portability?

Regards :-)

Yeah same on my iphone 5. Before i could play anything in safari while i used other apps or even if i locked the screen to listen to a video (song) i didnt have on my ipod yet. I d been an iphone user since 2nd generation & frankly im getting tired of apple limiting the iphone to the point where i feel like my smart phone is pretty dumb. Please fix this feature that i have been using for YEARS!!!
