How do set up your hotmail account on a mac book pro? I have it set up so I get mail but on my hotmail account I have lot of separate folders. They don't show up on my mac, they do on my iPhone and iPad.

What type of account is set up for your Hotmail account? IMAP or POP

You would only be able to sync the folders if it is IMAP.

The iPhone and iPad have different capabilities from the desktop OS, so the fact that it works there isn't too enlightening.

If you go into Mail Preferences, Account Information tab, it will say what type of account it is

Sorry, I don't use Hotmail, so I don't know how to set it up. Likely a web interface.

POP was not designed to store messages on the server, nor have folders like IMAP. There are some draft specifications that allow that sort of thing, and it may be supported by iOS, but I don't think it is supported in OS X Mail.

I have a new iMac, and have also been trying to get my hotmail e-mails into my mac mail. No luck so far.

I was able to add hotmail mailbox to mac mail (now below the icloud mailbox), however, my e-mails are not coming in.

Is there any solution for this?

Hotmail on a Mac is POP3 only, you will only get the basic folders (inbox, sent, trash etc) and it will not sync with other devices.

And now I post this I see other replies, so this is redundant. !!
