what is the point of photo journals

Can anyone outline in simple terms what the whole point of Journals is in iPhoto as opposed to albums? When would I use versus the other?

A journal is a way to format your album with a layout and added widgets, like a digital scrapbook, see: http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3152

You can publish your journal as a webpage, and whenever you change the journal your published webpage will be updated.

It is the only way I know, to host a webpage with a photos album in iCloud.

A regular album is a way to organize your photos and view them, based on tags - an album structures your photos into subsets, so you can better access them.
