How to disable follow tempo in Logic natively?

Here's the problem.

Lets say i have a project at 128 BPM,

i import a sample that is at 125 bpm and Logic automaticaly ticks Follow tempo marker.

How can i disable Logic from automaticaly ticking this option because i really hate that?

The problem with this is that because Logic does this it doesnt allow you to use Time and pitch change tool. It gives an error that this is not possible for an apple loop.

That is really annoying because as you all know Follow tempo messes up the pitch. If you use Time and pitch tool you can change time relatively good without messing up the pitch...

I assume you mean import an Apple Loop and not a Sample.

I don't think you can.

Logic detects that the audio file is an Apple Loop which is an enhanced audio file with embedded metadata plus transient markers. This is important to understand. Open an Apple Loop with the Apple Loop Utility and you will see what kind of information is embedded in that loop.

Only Apple Loops that have key and/or Tempo information embedded based on their Transient Markers will trigger the Follow Tempo checkbox in Logic. BTW, the term is not really correct, it should be "Follow Tempo & Pitch" because it effects both parameters if they are defined in the Apple Loop.

... because as you all know Follow tempo messes up the pitch.

That is no true. Look at the different types of audio.

1 - For Apple Loops:

"Follow Tempo" adapts to the current tempo and the key (+-transposition infor). I wouldn't call this "messing up". This is what it is supposed to do.

2 - Newly Recorded Audio Files (in the current Project):

"Follow Tempo" is deactivated. The audio file adapts to the current Tempo after the recording without chaning its pitch. However changing the Key will transpose the recording and so does the Tranposigion parameter in the Region Inspector

3 - Imported Audio FIle (non Apple Loops):

"Follow Tempo" is not available at all and you cannot change the Tempo or its pitch with any of the playback parameter. This is where you use Time and Pitch tool or other plugins. For Tempo adjustments you could also use "Flex Time", but that is another topic alltogether. Or you can re-record the imported audio file (bussing it to a new track). Now it is a newly recorded Audio File (see No2)

Hope that helps

Thanks for the answer. That is good input from your side but it doesn't really solve my problem.

If i understand what you are saying is that i can not change the tempo of apple loop without changing its pitch inside Logic and i need to use third party software like Wavelab with its Dirac algorithm to change the tempo and keep its pitch.

This is a real downer for my workflow but lets hope Logic X will bring a better solution for this...

I also wouldn't go into flex time because it doesnt do things like i would want it to and it sound terrible but that is just my opinion.

No, that is not what I said.

You cannot disable Follow Tempo and Follow Pitch indepently for an Apple Loop. Chaning eithe pich or tempo will NOT affect the other, they are independent.

Even if the pitch of the Apple Loop (based on your Project key and the key set in the Apple Loop) is not the one you want, you still can adjust it with the Transposition parameter in the Global Track or the Region Parameter.

If you want to diable Follow Pitch on the Apple Loop level, open it up in the Apple Loops Utility and disable the Key parameter. Then it would behave like a drum Apple Loop that doesn't have any pitch information and therefore ignores the Key setting of your ProjectUser uploaded file

Hope that helps
