iPhone 4S updated to IOS 6.1, Notes are gone

After I updated my iPhone 4S to IOS 6.1 my Notes are gone. Does anyone know if this means I lost them for good? I thought I had 5GB of iCloud which I know was saved previously as I used that when I lost and replaced my iPhone. But where are my Notes now??

Never had to before, but if I change Notes to "Yes" it asks me to create an icloud email account. But when I asked AT&T about this, they said that was not in their instructions. So if I make up a new "icloud" email account the Notes might be there? I had to use the cloud a year ago when I lost my iPhone 3 and I was able to restore all of my notes at that time. But I should not have to "restore" my notes when they were all there just a few days ago.

When I bought my first iPhone, they told me my Notes would be saved automatically in "the cloud". Then I assume that is how my Notes were retrieved last March when I had t replace my lost iPhone. My notes were recovered. So what happened, did Apple change the way the Cloud worked thus meaning I no longer had my Notes being saved? How would I know this was different? You see, from my view I am unhappy about this turn of events, I noticed a few others posted about this in Facebook since i asked, and also I see something in Yahoo AAPL blogs. So I know I am not the only one this happened to.

Yes I do that from time to time, iTunes to my iPhone. But its been a month or so, sounds like I lost a month worth of updates to my Notes if I need to restore, I just don't understand why I need to restore, I did nothing but follow the instructions and update to 6.1 and it asked me for my apple ID and password so i thought i was good to go.

No, I'm not sure why you lost them either. Knowing why might have helped with recovery, knowing more about how you have things set up might help too which is why I've been asking questions.

It seems you can at least recover back to a month ago, it might be a good idea to back up your notes on your computer at this stage.

Do you sync over wifi or USB. Are your iTunes sync settings still set to sync notes. Have you checked the notes on your computer.

I use the USB....but now I worry that if I try to sync it will try to sync from the iPhone to my iTunes. I know it used to sync Notes....but I don't see a file for notes anymore so something changed unbeknownst to me. Doesn't the sync start up automatically? But how does iTunes know what i am trying to sync from?? (IF Notes are even on my PC via iTunes)

Same thing is happening to me on both iPad and iPhone after iOS 6.1 upgrade! In fact, I noticed that if I try to start a new note, as soon as I minimize the keyboard and it starts to synch, the note disappears. I can't even create a new note and keep it! Same thing happening on both devices, so I think it's a bug. I was able to find my old notes though, just by luck. You'll have to log into a computer rather than your device though, and don't ask me why. Here's how to find:

1) go to settings on your device and look at Notes.

2) look at what it lists as "default account". That's your email account where it should have saved copies.

3) log onto that account on a computer. Can't see it on your device - at least I couldn't.

4) in that email account, you should see a folder called Notes. In there, you'll find your saved notes. (Again, for some reason, this folder doesn't show up in my email folders on either mobile device.)

I'd be interested to know if you also experience the same problem creating new notes.
