I've heard that apple exchanges your damaged product if it is within the warranty is it true?

You will need to bring the iPhone and cable to Apple for inspection. Only after they inspect it will anyone be able to determine if this will be covered by warranty.

 

Generally damage is not covered by the warranty only materials and workmanship.
