Phone not responsive after recent software update

I have just updated my phone (iPhone 5) with the most recent software update and it's now "died". It was 100% charged and I'm now faced with an unresponsive phone which just shows the "plug to iTunes" visual.

Anyone else have the problem and know how to resolve it?

*Frustrated*

PS did it for my iPad and it went through no problems.
