Need some help: My Macbook Pro (mid 2010) will not power up at all

My screen froze along with my mouse and i was forced to shut down the computer. After turning it off, it will not turn back on again. The light on the front of it (I think it has something do to with the Hard drive) will turn on for about 8 seconds then turn off with a loud click. I have tried the PRAM reset, the SMC reset, an dtried booting it up on safe mode and nothing seemed to work. The closest Apple Store/Genius Bar is 1.5 hours away from me and I don't have a back up of my data.

MacBook Pro 15'' (mid 2010)

500gb memory

everything else is stock

It has the OS of what was preinstalled at the time (I believe it was 10.6 Snow Leopard)

hopefully this is enough information to point me in the right direction.

Try holding Option during Sartup and seeing if you can boot to mac HD

If not you may need to reisntall hold C to boot to the installation disk

You will not lose any info or data just a fresh operation system

Otherwise what most likely happened was the HD failed and you would need to take it to an apple store

keep in mind they do have authorized apple service providers that work under the same platform as apple and may be closer to your location

Do I need an installation disc of the OS if I have to reinstall it?

Sounds like a HDD, or a logic board, especially the noises Maybe they might be able to recover some of your data. Sounds like you might be taking a ride. Sorry

There are what as known as AASP (Authorized Apple Serve centers) Ther might be one closer to you, do a search if you have access to a computer, or call Apple Spport and they might be able to tell you if there is oe closer to you. 1-800-275-2273

All I meant by "Taking a ride" was that you said it was a 1.5 hour drive to the APPLE store and you would have a drive to get there.Nothing more than that. All the best
