Connect it to iTunes on a computer and check for updates; the update requires at least an iPhone 3GS, third generation iPod touch, or any iPad.

Ok question sorry for the dumb questions I have a iPad2 and a iPad 5. So should it work? Neil I appreciate your time. The weird part is I was able to DL iOS 6

The iPad 2 will be updated to iOS 6 through that method. The iPad 5 isn't available to the public at this time and may not exist; all devices listed above except for the original iPad and third generation iPod touch will be updated to 6.1.
