Gray Screen and Random Restarts

Question

In the middle of working recently I&#x27;ve been getting a gray screen and I can do nothing. On one ocassion it restarted and gave a "Your computer restarted because of a problem..."It&#x27;s a 2011 27" i7 iMac running 10.8.2.Here is the most recent You are getting a Kernel Panic. It appears the KP is occuring when it reaches:net.telestream.driver.TelestreamAudio          1.0.3 The app does not have to be running in order to cause a KP. My recommendation would be to either update it to the most current version or following the developers instructions uninstall it from your computer. Then restart the computer and re-test.

I would have no idea which app uses net.telestream.driver.TelestreamAudio          1.0.3 . ,  You will need to use Finder to locate the file and then determine what app uses it.

Well, this is back with vengeance.I&#x27;ve tried removing the Telestream software and the BlackBerry software and I still get a blank screen randomly. The last one happened last night when I tried to download AppCleaner to make sure all files from the above programs had been removed. As soon as I clicked &#x27;download&#x27; it went blank and froze.This is persistent, and the annoying thing is that I can&#x27;t get it to restart when I want. I tried pulling out the power cord for a while, several PRAM resets, Safe Mode, try to get into recovery disk to check the drive, etc, etc.Sometimes a few PRAM resets seem to work, other times it will go into the recovery disk, but most of the time it just seems to randomly boot up again after not working for ages. I can&#x27;t find a pattern and I&#x27;ve tried this many times.At the moment I can&#x27;t get it working. I&#x27;ve just removed some Crucial RAM that was installed to see if that helped, but to no avail.Bugging the life out of me.

Well, I managed to get it going again (by pure chance it seems).I realised some of the Blackberry stuff remained, so I got rid of it.I then downloaded the Telestream software (Screenflow), removed the audio driver, restarted the machine, opened Screenflow and reinstalled the audio driver.Seems to be working so far, but it&#x27;s too soon to be sure.

Chances are high you are not following the developers instructions for uninstalling apps. If you follow the developers instructions your chances will improve. If no instructions exist then use an app like app leaner.

It has all occured from putting a Time Machine backup from a 2010 iMac to a 2011 iMac. Everything was fine on the 2010.Since software on Macs is inconsistent in uninstalling (some have unistallers, others are packages you just move to Trash) it&#x27;s hard to know whether you&#x27;re doing it right sometimes.Anyway, I was trying to download AppCleaner when it froze last time, so I was unable to get it.

I agree there is not a consistent way to uninstall apps therefore if you follow these simple rules your chances for successfully uninstalling will improve. Do them in this order!1. Follow developers instructions.2. Use a tool such as AppCleaner.3. Drag app to the Trash.

Okay, it has gone again. Gray screen.It doesn&#x27;t seem to be recording the problems in the Console Error Log. Why would that be?Does Apple warranty cover this if it&#x27;s software related and not hardware (although I&#x27;m nearly tempted to believe it could be hardware)?

Got it going again and thought I&#x27;d run Repair Permissions from Disk Utility.It found and correctly a heap of things.Good?Well, now when I restart I get a flickering or gray screen once it has booted up. I get to see the desktop sometimes before it goes gray.However, when I press the power button and put it into sleep mode, and then press the power button again to waken it, the gray screen has gone and all seems to work......for a while that it, because it has just frozen on me. No gray screen this time, I just can&#x27;t do anything. The cursor moves, but that&#x27;s it.
