Is this a kernel panic, or something else?

So my wife was working on her MacBook the other day, and she said this message came up, not on a window, but just the writing on top of the desktop. Then she rebooted the computer, and the same message came up on a window.

Is this a kernel panic? If not, do you guys have any idea what it can be? Your help is much appreciated. Here is the message that came up after she rebooted her macbook:

Yes this is a kernel panic. With these they are known to get progressivly worse.

This specific one looks like a certain kext file is running into an error while trying to communicate with a piece of Hardware within the computer.

9 times out of 10 this will turn into a hardware issue and would recomend taking it into an apple store for diagnostics

If thats not possible you can try reinstalling the operation system. Keep in mind this will not delete or remove any data or applications just put a fresh OS on your computer

Is this a kernel panic, or something else?
