I am setting up imessage on my son's new ipod touch 4th gen, but I can't figure out how he and I can send text messages back and forth between his ipod touch and my non-smartphone, since he doesn't have a phone number. Anyone know?
iPod touch
The iPod uses an email address for Sending and Receiving Messages. By default it is the Apple ID email address but yo can add another email address and delete the Apple ID email address. If there is an iPhone with iOS 6 associated with the ID then the iPod will have that phone number listed in Settings>Messages>Send and Recieve.
So...you've given me no help regarding using a NON-SMARTPHONE to communicate with the ipod touch. Shall I assume that there is no compatibility? Anyone??
You need to use a third-party app like Text+ to text to devices without the Messages app. You many have to pay to text another device that does not also have that app.
Search the App store for texting.
Both iPod Touches, iPads, or iPhones have to be registered to iMessage for it to work.
I've had this problem too, and I figured it out.
If you try to message someone without an iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch, it will not work.
