I am now using my husband's old iPhone. My information, including apps, replaced his. Yet when I try to update my apps it signs in under his Apple ID and asks for his password. How do I get the phone to recognize my Apple ID and not his? I went to Settings and made sure my ID was listed there, but it didn't change things on the app log-in screen.

The apps you want to update where download/bought with your husband's Apple ID.
So, best you can do is: Restore iPhone, set up as new user iPhone. With YOUR Apple ID.
And download all the apps you want from your apple ID.

I previously had another iPhone and I always downloaded my apps under my own Apple ID.
Restore iPhone, set up as new user iphone. After that, restore backup. Login with your own apple id.
But first: Settings > iCloud > delete account and login with your account.
And : settings > appstore, logout and in again.
