How to "force" iTunes to recognize a device? PLEASE HELP!

iTunes on the iMac sometimes drives me mad: without rhyme or reason it does or does NOT recognize one or both devices (iPhone and/or iPad), no matter whether connected by USB cable or through BT lying next to the iMac.

Is there a way to "force" it to recognize attached devices???

Thanks in advance for any ideas/pointers/suggestions/further readings? Cheers, Veit

Chamar, thanks for the response. Since most of the time iTunes recognizes the divers devices (and then works properly), I was wondering whether there was a shortcut or whatever procedure to "force" iTunes to look out for nearby devices?

Since it works MOST of the time, I am a bit reluctant to re-install iTunes, as you probably will understand.

Any ideas?
