My iMessage was working fine until yesterday, now it will only let me use emails to send imessage's and it says waiting for activation. My phone number is there but it's greyed out and not checked. I can't use it, i've tried a variety of different troubleshooting tips such as logging off my apple ID and then signing in again, restoring iPhone and setting as a new device, trying to active over LTE/3G. I've tried changing date and time settings to automatic and everything but it just won't work! All i want is for me to be able to use my phone number to do iMessages again, could someone please help me out?

Go to Settings -> Messages -> Send & Recieve. Tap your Apple ID and select Sign-Out. Then go back to your home screen. RESTART the device, and go back to the Messages settings and sign back in. If it doesn't work, you may need to sign out of all devices using iMessage (iPads, iPhones, Macs, etc) before it will work again. Some people only had to sign out of one. I had to sign out of everything before restarting the iPhone.

My problem was identical to the original poster, but glad it's sorted. Time seemed to be the fix in this case.
