I need to animate a route on a map for a Final Cut X project. I know how to do the animation in Motion 5. I expect there will be some tweaking needed once I get the Motion project into Final Cut, so I'd like to be able to open the Motion project from Final Cut.

How should I start the project in Motion? As a Motion Project, then save as a template? Or as a Motion Project and the export for import into Final Cut? Is there another approach I should take?

I found the answer I was looking for. I had missed publishing the project as a GENERATOR. Here's a link to where I found the answer. https://discussions.apple.com/message/15465646#15465646

Thanks to Mark Spencer and Stefan B for the answer.

Note that there is a "Publish as Final Cut Generator" check box at the bottom of the Publish dialogue.

    Ben,

Your tutorial was one of two I used to learn how to animate a line on a map. I just got hung up on how best to save the project for FCPX because I was certain there would be some back and forth until I got it right.

Thanks for putting it on line.

Actually, since a map is a specific thing, not reused over and over.  Or the path traced on it is not somehthing used over and over.  You wouldn't make is a tempate for FCP.  You'd just save it out as a QT ProRes 422 flle, and import that into FCP.
