when I open this session I am missing files
how can I find and re connect the missing files?

Do you have an offline Event??
Click the clip, Shift-F to show it in the Event browser, and start investigate...
ok what do I do next?
Look in the Inspector, make sure File Status is shown (Enable it in the 'fear' menu).
It shows where the file is supposed to be.
Or maybe you have changed over to 'Use Proxy' for playback, and those files do not have a Proxy generated?
If so, select them, right-click, Transcode media... Generate Proxy!
what is the fear menu?
i am not allowed to generate proxy as I am not given this option
what do i do next to locate the missing files?
