I just did the 5-11-06 security update 003 for intel on my macbook pro, and now it will not boot into OS X. It still boot (under boot camp) as a PC. I have ran the disk utilities and hardware tests. Please someone Help!!!!!
If you are in Windows restart while holding down the "option" key and boot into OS X. Once in OS X open System Preferences > Startup Disk > and highlight (click once) on the Mac OS X Macintosh HD disk.
OS X will not boot, it hang just before the Log in Window, Blue Screen that's it. But it will boot from the Installer Disc, that how I ran disk Util, and Hardware test. I could get to the command line if that would help.
Haha, guess he doesnt understand the scope of the issue. I am having the same issue and here is what I have tried:
1: Single-User Mode deleted my bootcache and user-added fonts.
2: Install Disk Permissions Fix, verified my hardware is ok.
3: Safe-mode dumped third-party widgets, startup items, and desktop files.
4: Reinstalled updates
5: Reinstalled 10.4.6
Even after all that, I still hang in the startup. Its never consistant, its either the grey screen, or the blue screen with the mouse, or the start up status bar that never fills or my desktop with only a spinning wheel and spotlight the only thing to show up.
I am almost entirely sure this is an issue exclusively with the security update. Apple support recomends you backup the computer and reinstall the OS from the disk. I am going to wait for another solution.
You can boot into safe mode by holding down your shift key right after the chime in the start-up. Will boot without extensions but does work. I will keep you updated on my hopeful progress.
Try booting into SafeMode (by holding down the shift key at Startup).
I've read that there may be some issues with the Startup items, especially Version Cue. Go to /Library/StartupItems and see if Version Cue or anything else exists that may be giving you problems.
Hello, I'm having similar problems with my MacBook Pro. I downloaded and installed the intel security update this morning. On restart, my computer will not boot into Tiger.
The computer "dings" and the apple icon show up, the screen turns blue, and the Loading MAc OS X dialog pops up and it just freezezs at that point.
I don't have BootCamp or another OS installed, but I DO have a bunch of software and documents I'd rather not have to spend time backing up/reinstalling. Any suggestions?
Hey Miketcool, would you mind posting on any further progress you make in this thread? It seems like you're a day ahead of me in terms of tracking down what's going on with this intel update.
Is there anybody out there who's NOT had a problem with this update?
I just got this MacBook Pro last week, new off the shelf.
I've installed the latest updates until today, and additionally I've installed Xcode tools, Macromedia studio 8, Adobe CS2, World of Warcraft, and trial versions of Transmit and Serene Saver.
Also, I've installed a few perl modules using the command-line "cpan -i ", MySQL 5.1 for OSX, and am running Apple's default version of Apache.
I can boot into safe mode, but I don't know what to do from there. It's got to be one of the updates I downloaded this morning (I downloaded the latest 3 updates:intel securty, a quicktime update, and something else).
Any additional help/suggestions would be great. Thanks
Yes, That is right. I have try all the same stuff, I may have to boot in Target Drive with a one of my other computer and copy my hardware to a extental drive and reformat and install every thing. I hope you can figure this out.
I am thanking God now that the update didnt kill my Tiger...
I can't exactly think of a solution now but, If you have a portable hard disk I am sure there are ways to install Tiger on them and boot from them. After booting up from the portable drive, Backup all your apps and files. Then reinstall Tiger...
Hi,
i have the same problem with my MBP. As soon as the login screen appears i have 30 seconds until os x freeze.
If i don´t type in my password right away the login freeze.
If i do my OS X runs normal for about 30 seconds.
3: Locate the Version Cue Prefs in the Library/Cache directory and trash it.
4: I suggest erasing your bootcache.kext file in var/db but I am not sure that is necessary. Press "shift-command-g" and type in var/db into the dialogue box. locate the bootcache.kext, drag to trash and authenticate it.
5: I also turned off all my third party widgets and cleared my startup items.
6: Restart normally and wait patiently. Looks like it hangs but it is writing a new bootcache file. Shouldnt take more then 5 minutes.
Let me know if that works. Worked on mine. I am guessing that PPC apps that require a start during login cause it to hang.
Intel and startup PPC apps are not friends!
boot in using safe mode by holding down your shift key right after the chime
Uninstal version cue (Adobe cs2), remove all start up items. Now restart, this worked for me. good luck
Starting safe boot and uninstalling Version Cue cures the problem. Thanks for all the people who figured this out before I re-installed the entire OSX.
