Can iPhoto be used in the same manner as Windows Media Center

I crrently have a desktop connected to my TV. I use windows media center to play music and show photos. Windows media center randomly picks photos to show as a slide show while playing music. I don't care to make separate slideshow, I like that it randomly picks photos. Can iPhoto do the same thing?

Thanks in advance.

OT,

Again thanks for your help, but I have no interest in and Apple TV as my TV already access streaming video. Based on everything I have read, the Mini can plug directly into the TV using a HDMI cable. I'm specifically looking for how iPhoto works, and if it is worth trading in my windows machine and go full Apple.

To play slideshows in iDVD one has to either select an album and use the Play button at the bottom or create a slideshow in the slideshow mode and then play it manually. iTunes can be set to play a playlist or assign an iTunes playlist to the slideshow so the photo playing time is the same as the playlist.

I've not connected a Mac to a TV set (only an iPod) so really can't give you any first hand suggestions.
