Browser curser default to search box not address box

Often when using the browser and tapping for top for the search box, the curser starts in the URL/ IP box by default. Most annoying when you type in your search words only to have to redo the entry in the search box because, it thought you were wanting to enter an IP or URL ?! Is there some way this can be address. I often want to search for a URL and therefore don't know it to enter it in the URL box!
