How to turn off iMessage from iPad to iphone

One option is to turn off iMessage on the iPad. Which of course mean you can't send nor receive messages.

The other is to turn off notifications of messages in notification center. That will not keep iMessage on your iPad from receiving messages, but at least they will not pop-up on your iPad home screen etc.

Hmm... Can't think of anything else..

Settings>Messages>iMessage>Off

Go to settings on your ipad then scroll down to messages and slid the switch to off.

The option of turning Imessage off via >Settings>Messages> is not there on this ipad. It has the log on to imessage via your apple id message. There is NO physical way of turning it off and on again. So I guess this can be a problem. my imessage isues started AFTER the IOS 6.1.3 update.

Rayealdon, you have to log in to iMessage before you can turn it off. The off switch only appears at that point.

IF I turm off iMessage, what difference will it make to my texting? Two of my children have iPhones and the other does not, and if I want to send a text to all of them, on my iPad, it won't send the one message. I find this very aggravating. I can send on my iPhone to all.

What device does the third child have if not an iPhone? An iPad? Is this the child that does not get the message?

All four of you must have different email addresses or phone numbers in order to be able to text back and forth. A few more very specific details as to exactly what you want to be able to do, would probably be very helpful.

My children are all grown, different emails, cities etc. My eldest son does not have any apple device. There are times when I want to contact all the kids, but unless I use my iPhpne, this son cannot be sent a message nor can I receive from him on my ipad. When I type his name in the field, it comes up red with an exclamation mark and will not send. I like to use my ipad because it is easier.

OK. That's an easy one to explain. The iOS Messages app only works with iPhones, iPod Touch devices and iPads - or Mac computers running Mountain Lion. messages was only meant to be used in the IOS/Mac ecosystem and will not work with other smartphones or cell phones.

You get the red exclamation mark for this reason. Messages does not recognize his phone number. Your phone will work because the message/text is being sent as SMS over your carrier's network. iMessages are not SMS and will not work that way. All that you need to use to send iMessages is a WiFi connection and not a data plan.

I have exactly the same issue as Jacqueline130. My partner does not have an iPhone - not everyone has!

I follow all you've said in your last message but what I (and J130 I think) want to know is how we send an SMS from the ipad? Surely we can when we can do it from our iPhone??

Maybe the question should have been - "how do I turn imessaging off and SMS on"?

We don't always have wifi available.

The point that I made is that the iPad is not capable of sending SMS messages. So it's as simple as that. It is meant to work ove WiFi and it will work over a cellular connection but the iPad does not work like a phone in this case, so it cannot send SMS messages.

There are third party apps that will work from iPad to an Android phone or other cell phones.

The iPad was designed with a touch screen and you place the insertion point with your finger or a stylus. There is no cursor on the iPad because there is no mouse to use with it. A cursor needs to be placed from an external device.

BTW ... I do not have an iPhone. That's the only major Apple device I do not own.

personally i am fed the f**k up with apple. what used to be the gold standard in ux is now a hopelessly complicated, totalitarian disaster.
