It means that the app is scheduled to be added to the device when you sync.I'm guessing it stays selected to install even if it can't now in case the reason it can't goes away. E.g. you upgrade the iOS on the device. Do you get an error message while syncing? If not have you used Edit > Preferences > Advanced > Reset Warnings?

This worked for me, thank you! As soon as I reset the warnings I went back and said apply and the new app sync'd right away. Yay!
Resetting the warnings didnt do anything to help in my case. It still just says "will install" and after countless syncs the app never shows up on my phone.
I was searching for a solution too. Click on app that is ready to "install" and at the bottom right hand of the screen changes so you can click on "Apply". That worked for me.
Im havin the same trouble at the moment. Any other ideas?
Was having same problem. I have an older Mac which does not have sufficient output from USB to charge the iPad but will charge it when the iPad is put to sleep.
Also was able to sync the app when I put the iPad to sleep.
Hi, I am even facing the same problem, I have tried to reset the warnings yet I was unable to install when I click on Apply, An error has popped up saying that this computer is no longer authorised for purchased items on this iphone although I had authorised the computer.
how about going to Store>Authorise this Computer>login with your accont details> Authorise. then go ahead add apps Install and Apply.
This worked for me ! 🙂
This worked for me, too djinZ. Hey apple, if you're listening to any of this, here's a thought. Instead of your iTunes program acting like a moron who's mute and dumb, how about a message when you ignore my command to Install the app and ignore your own commitment that it "Will Install"? It would be VERY easy to implement a message that says, "Sorry, this computer is not authorized." or "Sorry, unable to synchronize XYZ app because this computer is not authorized for your account/phone/whatever. If you've already authorized this computer, we sincerely apologize for the inconvenience because you'll need to do that again by choosing Store>Authorize this Computer."
Hi, I have the same problem as all of you. what is the solution?
I have tried all the ways discussed here. my laptop is authorized. i have installed the last version of itunes. i click on the "install" , then "apply", it becomes "will install". now what? at this step (clicking the apply and appearing of will install) i don't have the app on my iphone.
what should i have to do?
I was just having this problem, what worked for me was turning off my phone, while plugged into my computer still, then turning it back on. After that it downloaded everything just fine. Hope that helps you.
Hello, it has been a while since Tiki Effect responded but I worked my way through all of the posts above and TE's solution solved my problem! Thank you! I could have avoided a lot of cussin' if I had seen this earlier!
Thanks Tiki Effect, that worked for me on my ipad.
I was just assisting someone with this issue and it turned out she had app downloads turned off in her restriction settings on her phone. An odd issue, but as soon as we re-enabled the app downloads and re-started Itunes, all of her apps were returned to the phone.
I checked my settings and found that my iphone apps were restricted on my iphone. I unrestricted them and downloaded back to my iphone that way -- The Itunes is still not working and I tried all the suggestions on the thread. 😟
