Q: gift to someone whose apple id i do not know

I want to gift few apps to my friends and cousins. But I do not know their Apple ID email address.

My apple id is registered for India. Can I send gift apps to Indian consumers?

Can I send gift apps to USA consumer (cross country?)

The screenshots shown in knowledge based has icloud email for recepient. What if I dont know whether my-friends-email@gmail.com is associated with iTunes or not?
