Final Cut Pro 7 error message (out of Memory)

I have an 8 core 6 gigs of ram. My mac is configured for HD video using XDCam footage.

I get a message that I am out of memory. 26:30 program and I have a lot of filters on my footage.

Can you tell me how I can release my memory? Conrol Command P R?

Can some help me with this?

Thank you for your response Michael. I am not using any H264 video sourse. All my photos are RGB. not cmyk.

So some one did mention that FCP has a functional image size limit of 4000x4000 pixel and my photos I scanned are 4550x6760 and I have a lot of files sizes this big.. So I am thinking thats could be the problem.

Well time go and upgrade my ram from 6 gigs to aleast 12 and that should help.

Thank you

Try to convert stills to tiff and make sure they have no more than 4000 pixels along either side. One other thing which can sometimes help is this: create a new project and a new sequence in that project (with suitable settings for your material), then open your existing sequence and copy/paste the content of your existing sequence into the new one. Render the new sequence and try exporting that.

I have a few times ... strangely enough, when rendering to another internal drive with plenty of space, but the boot drive was 98% full (not my system). When you have too little free space on the boot drive (which the system uses for temp and swap files), all sorts of wonky things start happening, and not just in FCP so I suggested checking that since MtD had already covered the graphics issue.

But you are correct; the error message is usually the result of importing an improper file format or still image not to proper specs. With still images, it can happen not only with CMYK color mode images, but also with images in Grayscale or Indexed color modes.
