I've seen many people post that their screensaver no longer functions after upgrading to Mountain Lion. It does seem to work for a short time after a reboot, then stops working. It does work fine if forced to start via a hot corner for example.
I sure would like this functionality to work, anyone have a solution?

From the menu bar, select
▹ System Preferences... ▹ Energy Saver ▹ Power
If there's a closed padlock icon in the lower left corner of the preference pane, you may need to click it to unlock the settings. Enter your login password when prompted.
Move the Display sleep slider to the right so that the display sleeps after the screen saver starts.
Thanks for your reply, but it does not answer my question. Your recomendation turns on "display sleep", I want the screensaver to work...
Do you have it set in System Preferences/Desktop & Screen Saver/Screen Saver?

I am not clairvoyant. Is Display sleep active now? If so, what is the delay before it comes on? What's the delay before the screen saver comes on?
The screensaver is set to come on after a 1 min delay. The display sleep is set for a 1 hour delay.
Select a screen saver and close System Preferences. Then open it again. Is the same screen saver selected?
I am having the same issue. It may be linked to the last update? I have tried rebooting and changing the settings but there does not appear to be any change
