Flash 11.5 hack for PowerPC

Just wanted to share this. Someone tweaked the last hack so that now it shows up as 11.5. I've tried it and it works.

Thanks for posting - a useful hint! 🙂

Can't speak for Tiger but it works for Leopard.

But it does not solve a problem where a website, such as the BBC, not only requires the latest version of Flash Player, but still only works with Intel Macs.

For users of PPC Macs there is this workaround:

I cannot watch flash videos on the BBC website or on BBC iPlayer, although all other flash videos (YouTube for example) are fine.

For reasons that passeth all understanding, they work with the PPC version of Firefox, called TenFourFoxG5.app, once you have anabled plug-ins, as it does not natively support Flash.

You can download TenFourFoxG5 from here:

http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/

Now for the interesting bit: TenFourFox, like Firefox, does not support most plug-ins. Unless you are prone to headaches (in which case don't) you can read about that here:

http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/PluginsNoLongerSupported

But there is a workaround!

Open TenFourFox and type in the address bar: about:config (no spaces) and click return. This gives you a warning that it might harm the application. Ignore that and click on 'I'll be careful, I promise' and you get the config file that you can edit - with great care.

Look/search (scroll down) for: tenfourfox.plugins.enabled

Set it to true. (Double click it to toggle it)

Now close TenFourFox, open it again, and Flash will now work, as it now uses the plug-ins that Safari has stored.

I am using Flash 11.5.502.55 in TenFourFox and it works just fine, including the BBC news site and iPlayer.

I've tried v24 twice, on G4 PB and a 2gb 20" G5 iMac, and Flash does not work. If you go to about:config it will show plugins enabled, but none will appear in the plugin area of the browser as does v17.

I use iCab with the 11.5 Flash hack or TFF v17 and have a very stable experience, plugins enabled TFF. I am using 10.4.11, I can't verify 10.5.

Take a look here for TFF plugin support http://code.google.com/p/tenfourfox/wiki/ReleaseNotes240

Best to everyone. Long live the PPC!

BTW, BBC will be updating video with a different player that I have used on my 10.4.11, G4 1.5 PB. The update may not be complete until after the Sochi Olympics.

Lin, on my OS 10.4.11 1.5 G4 Powerbook, in the Internet Plugins folder I show 11.5.502.136. When I visit the Adobe site,

http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/, and/or http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html it shows "You have version 11,1,102,55 installed."

This is the Nordkill version http://scriptogr.am/nordkril/post/adobe-flash-11.5-for-powerpc

This is a direct download page for FPforFBPPC http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip

I currently use FP though I have tried Nordkill. I am able to view video on Facebook, Youtube [but I opt for HTML5, but standard page plays], Guardian, BBC [except BBC is not working correctly and will update so I am told after the Olympics], Al Jaz, RT. The typical video problem I have is related to the Site and high resolution which stifles playback. If you can, try a copy of "YouView." You'll be surprised how smooth video plays compared to online Flash.

Hope this helps.

I do get the 11.5 version in the Internet Plugins, but 11.1 on the Flash version check.

I am using a G5 PPC, running 10.5 (which i do not like, but I need!).

I seem to be able to view most Flash apps, but they update so fast it is tough keeping up. But I still refuse to give up my PPC!

Thanks for all the help, and I will keep checking to see if anyone has a new hack for the latest Flash!!!!!!!!!!!!

Feb 15, 2014 11:34 AM in response to romko23

Correct ansswer is I don't know. I'd suggest directly asking the hack creators if they might, or if it can even be done. This is not a new question and I have yet to see a response suggesting PPC Flash will update beyond 11.5.

Eventually we will all leave our beloved PPC's to our collection, just as the 68000 series, versus our daily user. My PPC units still work great with iCab, TFF and the 11.5 hack. Toss in YouView or Mactubes and my old units are perfectly acceptable. If you demand the latest and greatest, like 4k or streaming HD, well, it's simply time to open your wallet.

Long live the PPC, have a great day!
