I have checked that my icloud is on for both devices, but nothing changes.

I believe you mean the iCloud account.
Did they verify the account for you at the store.
Yes, several times. I actually had to take every device, phone, 2 ipads and mac into the store and the genius bar
synced everything and assigned me a me.com address and password.
How long ago was this.
When I delete a message in mail on my phone it does not delete from my Mac mail.
