hdmi not working on mid 2012 retina macbook pro?

I have a mid 2012 15" retrina display macbook pro. After updating to 10.8.2 the hdmi video displays a black screen with a large cursor. How can this be fixed? changing resolution in the system preferences doesn't help.

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Try this, it may or not work, but will not hurt anything. First make the mac is set the correct settting, systems preferences>diplays>HMDI, make sure sure the monitor is det to the correct HDMI channel. turn of the monitor, turn on thr mac, if still no joy, invert the process. After trying thid go to systems prefereces>dislays>detect display, if it still does not work try a (hot patch) plug the monitor into thr mac while both are turned sre on. Also make sure that you have the correct conectors, as they are not the same, they are machine specific, as are the cables. If you question, take it to the APPE Store as they will assess the problem for free. Hope tis helps

Sorry, bt the macpro retina display will not show monitor options such as HDMI, so I can't choose it. Also, when connected to the HDMI flat panel (which used to be just fine before the latest OS upgrade), the screens on both the flat panel TV and the macpro turn black with only a cursor showing. It is not possible to select the systems preferences, either thru spotlight or through the mouse selection. It appears a pixel issue. the cursor appears to be at low resolution.
