will the nike + record my workout on an elliptical, or is it only for running?

I just bought the NIke + and have tried it with both my ipod and my 4s. Neither seems to keep track of my workout on the elliptical. Is it only for running, or is there a way to adjust for eliminating the foot strike on a bike or elliptical?
