I've tried connecting a Moshi HDMI cable from my macbook Pro into the TV HDMI input. The TV displays the desktop and using the curser shown i can click onto DVD but then it shows a blank grey page even though the DVD is playing. Any suggestions??

You have the wrong cable/adpter/ or you have the wrong channelwrong on the monitor. Allso go to system preferences>displays and make sure you have the correct monitor selected, click detect display
