Q: Can't activate my iPhone 4s tried everything! Please help

Hello. I have an annoying problem and I hope someone here could help me.

I bought a iPhone 4S. The iphone used to be locked to AT&T but after a while it became unlocked.

When I try to activate my iPhone with my sim I got a massage that the activation server is temporarily unavailable. I tried also to activate through the iTunes but got a massage that says "you request can't be completed...". The Wifi has the same result.

I check my iPhone imei on the net and discover that the "activation" and "registered" is false. And also I have noticed that the apple server is down for few days.

May the apple's server cause this problem? I waited a long time but nothing happening. It looks like the iphone was never activated or registered before.

Please tell me what can I do.  Here is the details I got for the IMEI:

Telephone Technical Support :Unknow
Registered Status :No
Activated Status : No
Purchase date :Validated
SIM Lock Status :Apple Server is down!

Please help me!!

iPhone 4S, iOS 6.1

Put it into DFU mode and try to Restore it as a new iPhone.

So you put it in DFU mode and then restored it in iTunes?

No, you are not the only one. Everyone with a jailbroken phone has the same problem.

For ANY problem, nobody is "the only one". There are 300 million iPhones. No matter what problem you have someone else has had the same problem.

If the phone is jailbroken there are solutions you can find on the Internet that may work, but you can't get help in an Apple-hosted forum.

If it is not jailbroken then troubleshoot update and restore problems. Start with the error code you received when trying to restore.

"Unable to reach activation server" can be caused by your antivirus blocking access to gs.apple.com, or a redirect in your hosts file. The latter will only be a problem if your computer has been used to hack some iOS device in the past (not necessarily the phone with the problem.

Hey finch, first of all, I never meant to say that I am the only one with this problem. Please recheck my post and note the I was saying that there are a lot of people like me and if we will reach to the solution it can be helpful for the most of them. Secondly, I already posted the exact errors I am getting. Here are the pics again:

Thats my first iphone ever, my last phone was galaxy and I can tell for sure that I was never used any hacks, cheats, jailbreaking or etc (regarding apple)...                                                                                                                        Hope it clear now. I'll check with my antivirus and update you. Ty.

Sorry, I didn't see your earlier images; I didn't look far enough up the thread. That error means (as has been said) that neither the iPhone nor your computer could contact gs.apple.com, which is the master database of all iPhones and their carrier assignments. For non-jailbroken phones this is usually caused by either your antivirus or firewall blocking access, or, if trying to activate over the air, the router or its firewall is blocking access. iTunes (and the phone) try on ports 80 and 443, which are standard ports for web traffic so they should always be open.

If the phone was jailbroken that's another possible cause, but as yours is not, we can ignore that as the problem.

If you are in an office setting the local network may be configured to block access to Apple. If you are home it is something of a mystery. Things that might get around it:

    • Disable your antivirus and firewall
    • Check router settings to make sure there are no blocked ports or addresses
    • Try using a different computer on a different local network
    • Take it to an Apple store (make an appointment first - http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/
    • Take it to a local store for your carrier (only a direct store, not a reseller)

    Hi Avinfinite,

I have exactly the same problem as yours, I have read all the conversation, and saw the photos as well, so did you find a way how to fix it, I feel sorry that no body here could understand the problem or help you correctly, the problem still open and needs a solution, my iphone used to be jalibroken and now I updated the iOs by accident, then I factory unlock by a dealer but uptill now I am not able to activate it, when I contacted the dealer, he said because it was jailbroken and now I updated the iOs, there is a missed-up with software that why the itunes can not recognize it, then he offers to open this prolblem for me for $15 , he already charged me $ 20 for the factory unlocking, I am trying to avoid paying that 15 bucks and do it my self , but still no luck. any one has a solution please ??

The problem is you jailbroke your phone. PERIOD. You get no support and no sympathy in an Apple forum. See: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3743

my iphone used to be jalibroken

You can not get help here.  It is not always possible to undo the damage done by jailbreaking. If the phone was jailbroken or hacked to unlock it, it may become impossible for it to process a legitimate unlock request.

Hello if you get that error please try hard resetting your iphone (by holding power button+home button untill the device shuts down then starts and shows the apple logo) then start the activation again with a different wireless router or on a different computer with a different isp (internet service provider).
