Q: Can't activate my iPhone 4s tried everything! Please help

Hello. I have an annoying problem and I hope someone here could help me.

I bought a iPhone 4S. The iphone used to be locked to AT&T but after a while it became unlocked.

When I try to activate my iPhone with my sim I got a massage that the activation server is temporarily unavailable. I tried also to activate through the iTunes but got a massage that says "you request can't be completed...". The Wifi has the same result.

I check my iPhone imei on the net and discover that the "activation" and "registered" is false. And also I have noticed that the apple server is down for few days.

May the apple's server cause this problem? I waited a long time but nothing happening. It looks like the iphone was never activated or registered before.

Please tell me what can I do.  Here is the details I got for the IMEI:

Telephone Technical Support :Unknow
Registered Status :No
Activated Status : No
Purchase date :Validated
SIM Lock Status :Apple Server is down!

Please help me!!

If you have jailbroken your phone, or you have ever used your computer to hack or jailbreak any iDevice you will get this error until you fix the network database on your computer that was corrupted by the hacking tool.

If the phone was hacked to unlock it, it will not activate until the carrier it was originally locked to agrees to unlock it.

    hello Lawrence,

i bought a brand new, factory sealed iPhone 6s Plus from the US, unlocked (sim free).had it shipped here in Greece and arrived 4days ago. Have unpacked and inserted my Vodafone SIM card but I get the following message : the SIM card that you inserted is from a car that is not supported under the activation policy that is currently assigned by the activation server. This is not a hardware issue with the iPhone.please insert another SIM card from a supported carrier or request that this phone is unlocked by your carrier"  Tried to DFU and restore several times but nothing. Also please note that I don't have acces to the home screen or anywhere else. Contacted the seller that is a reputable company and they guarantee that the phone is unlocked. Does it perhaps have to be activated by a US SIM card before I can install my other Greek card in it? Had bought the first iPhone many years ago from the US and had a SIM card from AT&T, opened the box and immediately got access to the home screen and set up status. (Of course then I had to unlock it but it served me for many years till I could no longer update further.

    Any ideas?

    thanks

Gliven the message you are receiving the iPhone in question is not unlocked. Call AppleCare and give them the model and serial number to find out which carrier it is locked with.

Thanks for the reply doggie. Ok it's the first time I am using this so I wrote in the wrong space. I'll put it right. The phone is the 6s plus 64GB. I agree with you it must be locked but the problem is, it was never activated and therefore Apple cannot see who is the carrier. Apple already (after posting here) told me it's locked after I gave them the IMEI number. Is there a way to find out who is the carried to whom it's locked? Also if I find the carrier can I unlock it?

If Apple says it is not in their system it is going to be very difficult to determine who the iPhone is locked to. As to whether you can unlock it that would be determined by the carrier. I would suggest returning the phone to the seller.
