I have virgin Internet in my house and I use the netgear wireless superhub.  Connected to this hub are any wireless devices eg. Ipad iPhone and I wired connection to a netgear switch.  All pc's and consoles are then wired to the switch. Would this be the reason why the remote won't work and is there a work around?

Please feel free to ask if you need more info.

Cheers Wilfsta

I am on windows. iTunes is enabled through the firewall. I can input the 4 digit code but can't connect to the library. I believe home sharing is switched on

Go through the link (blue text) I've provided and follow the instructions carefully.

I have just done what you asked. It comes up with this library is already connected through home sharing. I then click on the library but get the message it can't connect. Do you think this is because there is a switch and router on the same network that it could be causing the issues?

A short note, computer iTunes must be running.

Check your iPhone Settings > Music > Home Sharing > Apple ID > must be the same Apple ID as in computer iTunes Home Sharing.

    Uhmmm, lets recap.

    1. iPhone Settings > Music > Home Sharing > Apple ID

is the same as computer iTunes > File > Home Sharing > Apple ID ?

    2. Is computer iTunes authorized?

Computer iTunes > Store > Authorize This Computer

    3. The device and computer involved are all in the same network?

Maybe try put everything (PC with iTunes & iPhone) together on the switch or hub.

    4. Switch off Anti-Virus and Firewall for testing it out.

After many hours of work to resolve this problem, I suscessfully manageed to find a fix.  By the way, I'm using Windows 8.

In my case, it's wasn't McAfee causing the problem, but instead it was being caused by Windows.

First, I disabled McAfee firewall and attempted the connection.  Yes, it was successful, but wasn't something I was completely comfortable with.  It atleast told me the problem was a firewall issue.

    • Turn on Home Sharing on both itunes and the remote device (iphone, ipad....)
    • Go to Control Panel on your computer
    • Go to Network and Internet
    • Go to Network and Sharing
    • Go to Change Advanced Sharing Settings
    • Under Private (current profile) select TURN ON NETWORK DISCOVERY and be sure to slect TURN ON AUTOMATIC SETUP OF NETWORK CONNECTED DEVICES.

I can now successfully use the Remote App without disabeling the firewall or any other crazy temporary fix that leaves your system vulnerable.

The trick is in your router settings.  You have to go in and disable anything to do with IGMP proxy or multicasting.  The issue having these settings enabled is caused by the fact that IGMP and multicasting proxy settings is that your router receives the request from your iphone/ipad/ipod but does not look for a specific target location or program/computer receiver.  These settings are for broadcast streaming of media but, when enabled, will not allow your remote app to identify your specific iTunes as it is just generally throwing the information to any and all receivers connected to your network!  Disabling these settings in your router should also fix any issues you may have with syncing your iDevice via wifi.

    Hope this helps.

Remote App stopped working here also. ATV2 works one out of 10 times so forget that. Airplay played once and stopped yesterday. I can only reboot routers and devices and reset homesharing so many times. I give up. Getting a Roku.

BAM! I had a similar problem, I turned off the multicasting option on my modem and the remote app connected instantly to iTunes. Thank you Boobocares

Thanks!! This finally solved my problems (I have a wireless router that came with my Verizon FIOS) as my firewall, antivirus settings, and other settings were not the problem or were in accordance with other threads on this matter.  I am now finally able to concurrently access my 4 Airport Express Devices (setup wirelessly and hooked up to home theater system, portable speakers, & stereo system in different rooms) via Itunes from my two networked (ethernet cable) PCs (One running Vista and the other running Windows 7) and my Daughter's Mac (wireless), plus use my IPOD Touches as remotes for two of the PCs (Of course, they are accessing the same wireless network).

In addition to one of the IPOD touches being used as a remote for a PC playing Itunes, I can concurrently use it to play the Music App (for music actually resident on the IPOD) using Airply and directing to the 4th Airport Express.

Each Itunes program on each computer or IPOD Touch is playing it's own Library and different songs.  Of course, although I'm doing this concurrently, all deivces are directed to a different Airport Express device.  This is all being done using one wireless router with all wired devices on the same segment.  Although I have noticed that I have to start one PC first before the other before this all works (don't know why), the MAC never gives a problem.

Note related to this issue, it would be great if I could run multiple instances of iTunes on the same computer using different Music Libraries and directing it to different Airport Express devices in addition to the above.
