i lost my ipod but i only know the email to it, what should i do?

Hey well I was walking my friend`s dog a while back and when I brought the dog home I couldn`t find the ipod. So after I put the dog in the house I retraced my steps with my brother but it wasn`t there so I don`t really know what to do. I only the email to the owner thing.
