problem with uploading podcast to itunes store (different than the other question)

I keep trying to get my podcast submitted in using the method described here and getting the message "Couldn't locate hostname in your feed: webproxy-nk-11-ext"

My host is hipcast and it is obviously in my feed (hipcast.com)

iTunes store (podcast)-OTHER, Windows 7

I am getting same error as above - Mine passes feed validator as well

"Couldn't locate hostname in your feed: webproxy-nk-11-ext"

Here is my feed

http://skeptopus.podbean.com/feed

Although I did have 2 attempts where it passed that screen and let me select a category for the podcast and actually submitted - but then I got an email shortly after saying "there was an error with your submission.

Then a few minutes later it went back to the first error everyone else is getting and has stayed there the past several hours.

There is evidently a problem at the Store end as Robert has said, and I'm afraid it's just a question of waiting for Apple to sort it out.

It's always a good idea to check your feed by subscribing manually in iTunes (from the 'File' menu in v11 or from the 'Advanced' menu in earlier versions). If it works there it's probably OK.

Some of the feeds have media file URLs with spaces in them. The feeds have correctly handled this by substituting the code %20 in each case, so they will work and it won't affect submission; however it's a bad practice and should be avoided. The usual workaround is to substitute an underscore for each space.

filbert66: the image which appears when subscribing is not referenced in the feed but has to be actually embedded into the media files. Please see this page:

1-2 days.

This appears to be meant to answer the question 'How long does it take to get a podcast approved'. In fact it's likely to take a couple of weeks or so. Once approved, new episodes usually appear within 1-2 days.

However the problem experienced by posters in this thread is that although their feeds are OK they are getting error messages when they attempt to submit them to the Store, so they aren't even getting as far as being assessed.

As Robert indicated in an earlier post it appears that there is a problem at the Store end and I'm afraid that it's just a question of waiting until they fix it.

Hmmm I was lucky cca. 2 years ago. 🙂 (I have an another podcast) 1-2 weeks?! Horrible...
New episodes usually appear within 1-2 days also, it's true.

Roger Wilmut:

Can I have a question about coverarts?

I have a podcast. The main cover art which is appear in iTunes podcast when sombebody browsing it. And there are differenet embedded coverarts for each episode which are appear when somebody download an episode.

So, my question:

Why don't see that embededd pictures when I'm download an episode from the mobile iTunes (now Podcasts) application? Each episode has the original main cover art... It's not too "Apple".

I don't have an iOS device but from what I've seen others say the Podcasts app doesn't show the embedded image but does indeed use the image in the feed. It may have something to do with the way the iPhone handles podcasts, requesting only part of the file at a time from the server (the 'byte-range requests' method which has caused a certain amount of confusion) but Apple don't explain their reasoning.

Thanks everyone, I keep trying, tweaking and failing too. It works everywhere else. It works manually for me, but nope always this error on the iTunes.

mhawks, definitely let us know, I've tried many times but never gotten that close to someone who even started to give me an answer.

nmhall42, that's awesome. Hopefully we will be up eventually.

We actually produced a podcast for several years and never had an issue... I was expecting the technology to have improved for getting back into the game.
