iPod acting weird

Hello guys. i have an ipod video 30gb.
the problem is this.
i have my ipod configured to update all selected songs only, no videos photos or anything else. the disk mode option is off, and the auto launch itunes when ipod is connected is off.

when i plug my ipod. it opens the folder (it should not do this since disk mode is disabled). if i close this window, the icon H: from my pc will dissapear. (H: is the ipod disk), the ipod turns from "do not disconnect" to the regular menu music, videos, settings ~~~~...then if i want to update songs by itunes, i must disconnect and connect my ipod again.
if my itunes is open, it will update the songs and the when itunes says iPOd update is complete ok to disconnect, but the ipod is already on the main menu (music videos~~) the ipod icon is still on my itunes like if it was still connected, well it is but if i click on update again, it says: THE IPOD ~WILLIAM'S IPOD~ cannot be updated. The disk could not be read from or written to.

and i have to unplug and plug my ipod again. this is 2 annoying. i've reinstalled itunes, i've used ipod updater like 15 times, using 1.0 software and 1.1.1 but it does the same.

any idea??

hiya!

hmmm. it's plausible that you've got a Windows Autoplay setting engaged on one of the file types on the ipod that is interefering with the syncs.

enable disk use on the ipod. then in "My Computer" right-click the ipod and select "Properties". go to the AutoPlay tab, and make sure that for all file types in the pull-down menu you have "always prompt ..." selected. click okay.

does she behave a bit better when you sync her after doing that?

but since i have disk mode off.
there should not be such ipod disk on my computer. as i remember when it was working fine.

actually, not necessarily.

i noticed this by accident with attractive beast, while she didn't have "enable disk use" checked. if i plug her in while i have "My Computer" open, she shows up in there initially, and stays there until the autosync finishes. then she disappears. if something interferes with the sync (like an "itunes has detected it is not the default player for audio files" message), she'll stay in "My Computer" until that's been attended to and the sync can complete.

... so let's pursue the "interference with sync" possibilities.

do you have an antivirus or an indexing program configured to scan all attached disks? it's plausible that that might cause some troubles in this regard.

if you do have such programs on the PC, let's try an experiment. disable them prior to attaching the ipod. does the sync go through a bit more smoothly after doing that?

Hello!

i've checked that url but its kinda weird cuz i can sync my ipod but i must have itunes open cuz, if i plug my ipod as i said with itunes closed, it appears on my computer, then opens the folder and close itself... if i check on the taskbar icon called "Safety Remove Hardware" it detect the USB Mass Storage Device. but not the drive IN. let me explain. when i just plug the ipod. it detects it as USB mass storage device - Drive H:
then it changes to USB Mass storage device.

to keep it connected i must open itunes first and wait untill it automatically updates. but it again disconnects itself.
if i click on update again i must disconnect and connect the ipod.

no it doesn't work.

when i run the exe file. i can see the program QuickTimePlayer.exe run on the task manager and it closes quickly. no window is open or something there, i tryed to open a .mov file and nothing hapend.. i think the program is damaged..

note: the taskbar icon is there. maybe another exe and is just an agent right?

how do i reinstall quicktme only, i want to download it but it downloads itunes with it.

i already have itunes installer. and i can't run quicktime unistaller. it just do anything

okay, let's try a careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall then.

download and save a copy of the QT 7.1 standalone installer to your hard drive. (we'll run the install from there rather than online.) switch off antivirus and antispyware applications prior to the install.

Quicktime 7.1 Standalone Installer

if that install goes through okay, does your itunes launch properly again?

(if you get an error message on the QT standalone reinstall, let us know what it says. include error message numbers if you're getting any.)

when i clicked on finish o the setup. i got this error msg:

Unhandled Exception

Error number: 0x80040707
description: dll functio call crashed: QTInstallCode.Quicktimepostinstallproc

setup will not terminate

😟

then i clicked on OK then the installer said:
the wizard was interrupted before Quicktime couuld be completely installed

the system has not been modified. to install this program at a later time run the installer again click on finish to close the wizard.

(mutter mutter ... why is this happening out of the blue to people so much lately?)

Error number: 0x80040707
description: dll functio call crashed: QTInstallCode.Quicktimepostinstallproc

that's a known complication of a broken QuickTime. in this context, it usually means the installation configuration information of the QuickTime has been compromised.

here's what we'll try first.

Download and install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. then use it to clear any existing QuickTime installation configuration information from your PC:

Description of the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility

next use the QuickTime component of the complete uninstall instructions in the following document as a guide to a manual removal of leftover QuickTime program files and folders.

Trouble installing iPod, iTunes, or QuickTime software in Windows

once we've got all the existing QuickTime scraped away, let's try another careful standalone QT 7.1 reinstall.

does it go through properly this time? if so, does your itunes launch properly again?
