Q: I have a DVD of my third grade students' performance and now I want to import it into iMovie and edit it; is this possible?

I need to edit a DVD of my students' performances, to submit with a grant application.  I cannot figure out how to do this, working from the DVD and not the camera (I wasn't the one who videotaped it; I was directing it!).

Can this be done?  And if so, in simple language, please.  I've tried making sense of some of the other postings on this topic and cannot follow how this would work.

Thanks so very much!

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8), also have iMovie and iDVD

So my question is, once I drag the TS folder to the Streamclip, do I need to "do" anything with it?  To make it start working on converting it?  Before I go to the export stage?

Should start doeing its thing once you tell it what you want!

I guess that's my question:  at what point do I need to "tell" it what I want, after dragging the TS file onto the Streamclip.  I'm not seeing anything that asks me what I want, so in order to get something "moving" on the screen, I'm clicking on the arrow at the bottom of the page.  I think this is achieving the goal, but not sure.

Have you read the user guide available from the Help menu?

OK. Once you drag the Video_TS folder into MPEG Streamclip, the first thing I would do is to push the Play button, (or hit the spacebar) to play the video and see that all is well.

When you are ready to convert the video, use FILE/EXPORT TO QUICKTIME and choose Apple INtermediate Codec for the compression.

    YUP, that's what I've done!!!!!

Am so encouraged that it actually looks like I will not only be able to finish up the DVD for this grant before Monday morning, but may also have time to sleep and eat! Thank you so much, everyone, for guiding me through this process.  Am hopeful it will prove useful to someone else wandering in the wilderness of technology!
