Does the iPod touch 5 have gorilla glass? If it's not what is it? Is it the same as the iphone5?

It is gorilla glass, but the screen does crack when dropped. A screen protector guards against scratches but it won't protect the iPod from trauma/shock. A case will help, but there are lots of different kinds of cases. The most protective tend to be bulkier and more expensive.

bobjbkln is incorrect, it is in no way gorrilla glass, search before you post https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2753001?start=15&tstart=0
GO PARADOX, more misinformation. If you read the complete discussion you cited, the iPod does use Gorrilla glass.
Do all the Ipod touch have the Gorrilla glass or is it only the 5th generation?
It is sort of a urban legend that all of Apple's mobile devices use Gorilla Glass. Actually Apple has never said that the iPod touch uses any form of aluminosilicate glass, so it is unknown what specific glass was used, though since Apple never mentioned any special glass their use of any aluminosilicate glass is unlikely. The only products ever confirmed to use that type of glass is the iPhone and possibly the early iPads (I can't find data to confirm), and only the early iPhone models were specifically mentioned as using Gorilla Glass by brand name.

Well what if I have a screen protector, would it be safe to go around without my case?
The screen protector protects the screen from scratches. It provides zero protection if you drop the iPod.
How sure are you that it dosen't help provent cracks on the screen?
There have been a number of reports from users in these forums who dropped their iPod and had the screen crack even with a screen protector in place, so you should not consider a screen protector to be certain to prevent cracks. Even a case can't do that, though a good case will help.
Regards.
If I was you get an otterbox or Survivor theyre a smidge expensive but beats payin $150 for a replacement iTouch or new screen
I was planning to get one, but a few months ago my friend had an otter box and he dropped, then his screen cracked.
Thats true, but what are the chances that my ipod touch 5 with a screen protector would crack? I really like my ipod without the case, because it looks really nice.
If you dont want a actual bulky case Id wait for ZAGG InvisibleSHIELD its basically a screen protector for the entire iTouch but with the thickness of a screen protector

It's impossible to give you any sort of probability. It depends on too many factors, including and most importantly how the iPod happens to fall and onto what sort of surface. Zagg, mentioned above, claims that the InvislbleShield Extreme provides protection against breakage, but I notice that they make no guarantees about it other than that they'll replace the shield.
Bottom line: the only way to guarantee against breakage is to not drop or impact your iPod.
