duplicate contacts

Hi,

I have a iphone 3 and am running Mountain Lion and foolishly turned on icloud. Reading communities it appears that there are some real issues with this.

I also have an ipad 3.

As you can see I have muliple duplicates but running through the solutions on this website. Contacts can no longer find duplicates but they are there both for cards and groups.

I have also tried turning the cloud off an starting again. I am happy to rebuild the contacts but I would like to avoid having to do a full manual rebuild?!

I feel like the I have unleashed an ever growing contact list?!

Please Help.
