What does a red line at top of the audio waveform mean?

What does a red line at top of the audio waveform mean?

Hi everyone.

I'm new, more or less to the imovie forum.

I have imported a video clip into imovie, and there is a long red line on top of where the audio waveform should be. Does this mean that the audio did not get imported, or that it is muted somehow? I don't see any waveform whatsoever, nor do I see any way to "unmute" the audio. When I play the video clip in VLC, the audio plays fine. What am I missing?

Hi

Please do

A ScreenDump [Shift+cmd+3] or [Shift+cmd+4] to do a selected area - easier to understand.

Then add this to Your answer - Camera symbol just above Your answer

So we can see - What's Your problem - As I can not get a mental picture of what red line You mean.

This is a screenshot.

As I say, the audio is present before I load this video clip into imovie.

You got to do some more step's

Open application so that you see the problem on screen

press - Shift+cmd+4 - and mark a significant area

in next responce - select the Camera symbol and flip to the sceendump - most often found on Root level on Macintosh HD (Boot drive)

or

ON DeskTop as here

And Insert button down right (after selecting the picture)

Can be named in several ways dep. on Mac OS

• Bild 1 (Picture 1)

• Skärmavbildning 3.02.png (Screendump 3.02.png)

And we'll be able to see - Anything

Hi again.

I'm sorry that the screen dump didn't come through. It is on my desktop. The camera icon was blank, so I tried to copy and paste. Obviously it didn't work. Here it is, I hope

Yes this is what I see in

EVENT's Window Only - as

and this indicates that the Clip in Event's (top) - been used in one of my Movie Projects (bottom)

no orange line - not used as to yet.

The Orange Line at the bottom of the video clip means that this clip has been used in the current project.

A red line on top of the video clip means that you have rejected this clip, and do not want it to show in the Event Browser.

A green line on top of the video clip means that you have marked this clip as a favorite.

Thanks everyone for your help. You've answered the question for me. I thought it had something to do with the audio part of the clip being muted. This is my real issue, actually. When I import the clip I want, from my hard drive, there is no audio on it. But when I play the clip in QT or VLC, the audio works fine. I thought that I had somehow muted the audio in imovie, but I can't even see any waveforms, so imovie must not be importing any audio at all!

Can anyone give me an idea about this?
