iomega external not mounting on 10.7.5 MBAir

Howdy All,

I did the most recent OS update ("firmware" update? I'm not great with the terminology - one of the updates that causes the fan to run at full-output & requires 25% battery and recommends being plugged in) last night & this morning, my external drive (1TB iOmega) will not mount. Relevant info:

  • the drive mounts on another computer (my gf has the next generation MBA, but same OS, minus the most recent upgrade)
  • disk utility sees it, but no mount point & cannot mount through disk utility
  • 2 x SMC reset did nothing
  • 1xPRAM (or VRAM, whatever it is on an Air) + 1xSMC also did nothing
  • loathing myself for not backing up the backup also does not seem to be helping.

This external drive contains my work files, so my day is at a standstill until I can find a solution - if anyone has a minute to suggest some possible trouble shooting ideas, I would greatly appreciate it!

Kind regards,

Rax

MacBook Air, Mac OS X (10.6.7), Mem: 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3 (sigh)
