Can you plug in an external DVD drive via the USB port on the back of the Apple TV to view movies? I just bought my first Apple TV and would rather not rip all 250+ movies I have onto my hard drive and then stream them. Just seeing if this was possible.

Unfortunately, you can only use the Apple TV with your iTunes Store purchases and the content you have added to iTunes on your PC or Mac. The Apple TV isn't compatible with that type of peripherals
Gotcha. Thank you. I have a 2 TB Time Capsule that I'll have to rip all the movies onto then. And then associate the iTunes library to the external drive. This will be a process...

Why don't you simply plug the DVD player into the TV.
Because it's an old DVD player. I just bought my first projector. I'd rather not use composite for movies anymore if I am going to turn to the HDMI world. The DVD player doesn't have any HDMI ports but my projector does. I was torn on just getting your average blu-ray player for it to be easier but for one, I don't have any blu-ray movies and two, the projector is only 720p native. I was told to get Apple TV because if I put the movies onto my hard drive, then Apple TV will upscale them automatically.
