iCloud may or may not be the problem here. I installed iCloud on Monday last week then on Friday evening my email on self hosted web domain stopped working in Apple Mail.

I can log into my web domain's remote email via CPanel using mobile iPhone over 3G so I know passwords and user names are both correct.

If I try to log into CPanel on my wifi or an ethernet connect it comes up saying 'log in invalid'.

Meanwhile my Apple Mail is saying same password is being rejected.  Even though I know via 3G that it works.

As a work around I'm reading my domain email via Gmail - which is hideous and clunky.

After reading another thread on here, I tried deleting keychain files and deleting the account in Apple Mail preferences and re-entering.  It still rejects it.

I've rebooted the Time Capsule. I've emptied the Safari cache and reset Safari. I've tried using Chrome and Fire Fox.

Nothing will allow me to access my domain email via the web or the Apple Mail.

I'm at my wits end now. Does anyone have any new suggestions?

    iCloud is not compatible w/SL.

I am not using iCloud on Snow Leopard. I installed iCloud on the iPad because I just signed up for iTunesU. The email ceased working on iMac 5 days later. It wasn't installed on iPad anyway.

Are you saying this would be fixed if I upgraded to Mountain Lion?

I installed iCloud on the iPad

K, that wasn't clear in your original posting.  You left that part out.

That is not what I said.  What I should have said is that the OS requirements for iCloud are Lion & Mountain Lion.

The following are keychain troubleshooting that you may wish to try:

Use Spotlight to search for a file called login.keychain.

Users/YourUserName/Library(which is a hidden folder and won't show in Finder)/Keychains.

Click Go in the menu bar then Go to Folder and type in /Users/YourUserName/Library and hit the enter key. Look down the list of folder and find Keychains. The "login.keychain" file should be inside.

    Cures for a funky keychain

To update this, I seem to have it all fixed now. However, this was not by doing anything, it just suddenly started working again. My theory is that some settings were cached with the ISP and after a few weeks it was refreshed and started working again. Fingers crossed it carries on working like at the moment. *Shrugs*

I have this happen randomly all of the time with the domain at my job and my email at the domain at the school where I do network management.  Doesn't happen to any one person frequently, but mail suddenly stops and then just as suddenly starts working.  Yesterday my iPhone shut me out of the school mail, this morning it was healed -- I could get the school mail on my laptop just fine the whole time.  A trick that might work, or may just keep the sysadmin occupied while the problem goes away on its own, is to go into the settings and change something (i.e. break it), reboot, then go back into settings and reset the thing that you broke.

(You could also try wearing a hat in a silly manner while standing inside a circle playing the clarinet badly -- it works for sea bears <-- silly Sponge Bob reference.)

When Mail gets into one of these frenzies, I've found what often works is to simply hit the cancel button on the annoying message, then select the affected account and hit Get Mail and it usually relents...until the next time. This seems to happen in sporadic episodes.

Interesting.... so in other words Apple Mail has a mind of its own!!

I have only ever had brief times when Apple Mail went funny on me like this, this is the first time it happened for a month and spat out 2 email accounts at same time. I do however wonder in this case whether it was a caching issue since I was also unable to log into webmail for one of the accounts (even though the other was fine).

Good to know other people having same experience that one device is delivering mail fine and other device doesn't even when settings identical.
