I updated my mac, after installation and recheck for update, it won't let me exit the "Software Update" screen. Turning off the computer overnight did not help. Has this happened to you? Any idea how to fix it.
iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)
Home>Library>Preferences>com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist. Trash this file, repair permissions and restart your computer. Empty the trash when done.
P.S. If you shut down your computer, the window should have disappeared. Why didn't you use Force Quit?

P.S. Force quit for some reason was not an option. "Quit" was the only option and it did not work.
Force quit is found under the menu. It would certainly have cleared your screen. I suspect you looked in Safari menu.
