Do Not Disturb Alerts after phone is unlocked question

When I unlock my phone while in DND mode I do not get alerts on the lock screen for some apps such as Reminders. I don't understand why because texts twitter and facebook alerts pop up fine once I unlock the phone. Anyway to fix this?
