How do I connect to Saucer Airport Extreme with Mountain Lion?

Can I use airport 6.1 to connect to Saucer Airport Extreme?

I have MBP running Mountain Lion. The airport software is 6.1. When I try to connect to the airport extreme, it tells me I have to use 5.6. Tried to download and install, but it wouldn't because it only works with Leopard and Snow Leopard.

I guess 6.1 is not backward compatible?

Anyone run into this? Any work around?

MacBook Pro (15-inch Late 2011), OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

No, AirPort Utility 6.1 only supports newer 802.11"n" devices....not older 802.11"g" devices.

You have to use an unsupported workaround if you want to install AirPort Utility 5.6 on Mountain Lion. This link below will tell you how. This works for me, but I cannot say if it will work for you.

Sorry, but no. You would need to use version 5.6 of the AirPort Utility. Unfortunately, this version will not install under OS X Mountain Lion. There are a number of workarounds available. The following is one of them that I have used successfully:

Here are the basic steps to install version 5.6 under Mountain Lion using CharlesSoft's Pacifist:

  1. If you haven't already download the AirPort Utility disk image file directly from Apple Support Download
  2. Place the resultant AirPortUtility56.dmg file onto your Mac's Desktop.
  3. Run Pacifist.
  4. Click on the Open Package option. Find the disk image file that you just placed on your desktop, and then, click on Open.
  5. The utility is located as follows: Contents of AirPortUtility56.dmg > Contents of AirPortUtility56.pkg > Contents of AirPortUtility56Lion.pkg > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility 5.6.app
  6. Drag AirPort Utility 5.6.app to your Mac's /Applications/Utilities folder.

You can now run the AirPort Utility from the Utilities folder.
