Thanks Attilas! I was mostly concerned with performance issues for whether or not I should upgrade. Would there be any affect on my download speed? I just signed up for a faster download speed (18 Gbt) and don't really see a difference so far! And thanks again!!!

Try some speedtest over your wifi, like http://www.speedtest.net/.

If you can acheive your 18gb/s over wifi with 7.6.1, dont try 7.6.3. Most people, including me, had worst speed and numerous connection lost with the las update.

No way you'll get 18Gb/s over wireless 802.11n.  The wired connection is only 1 gigabit.  The only ISP I know offering 18Gb is Google in Kansas City.  Maybe you meant 18Mb?

You're right, 18 Mb. Excuse my retardation! I've got AT&T UVerse but doesn't seem to be living up to the hype. So back to the topic, the Airport update is useless and doesn't offer any improvement to bandwidth. Thanks for the discussion people! I appreciate the input!

If anyone would like to follow me, I want to start a new thread regarding my printer not working over my network/Airport Extreme!

I asked my co-workers via a mac-users forum about their experience w/ 7.6.3.  All of the people who took the time to reply all said they were very happy w/ 7.6.3.  For me, I'm sticking w/ 7.6.1 until 7.6.4+ comes out.  They suggested trying again, but I don't think so.

Since I reverted to 7.6.1, I haven't had any connection issues.  23+ days and counting since I reverted.

I upgraded the Airport Utility to 6.2 so I could install 7.6.3, but everytime I try to instal it the new firmware, I get an error message that states, "An Error Occured While Upgrading the Firmware -6721"  Anybody else had this happen to them?  If it did, how did they fix it?  Thanks for your time.

SciFi, I'm with you! I'll wait until 7.6.4 as well.

After updating to 7.6.4 my airport lost all network connection 2-3 times per day.  Unugging it and plugging back in seemed to resolve it temporarily.  Downgraded to 7.6.1 about a week ago and it hasn't dropped a single time since. Been rock solid.

    Surely a Typo, 7.6.4 isn't out yet!!??

But yes, just to clarify once more, 7.6.1 is the solid option.

Touché Ian.  Trying to type while exhausted after a long work day AND riding a commuter train does not accuracy make.

I am still on 7.4.2 and everything's pretty stable...anyone here have any suggestion of speed or stability improvement that can be assured if i make the leap to 7.6--anything?  I hate to upset what's been a reasonably

stable set-up of wired and wireless network for at least a couple of years but...if there'd be a signficant

improvement in connection speed and so forth, and assurance that i won't suddenly have weird issues or

drop-outs - i'd just as soon leave it alone..  Otherwise, am i possibly missing out on some big advance in

internet or network access speed?  Really appreciate any thoughts on this,

    Mike

    Hi guys.

Ive a new imac 27inch upgrded to i7, a Netgear DM111P modem, with an Airport extreme attached to that. The only new part of my setup is the imac. Everything worked before, but for some reason i can get connected to wifi on the home network but it wont connect to the internet. In the last 48 hours ive been on to my isp twice, totalling 4 hours and 43 minutes, and a call to apple which lasted 1 hour and 27 minutes. Patience is a virtue, sanity is something else.

I can get internet with the ethernet cable from the modem to the imac, but if i connect the cable to the airport extreme i get wifi but no internet. All the tech supports say its "weird" because the ip addresses arent as they should be, but changing them doesnt work cause they revert back,or something. Im far from expert so all i can say is that theyre reporting ip numbers are strange. Sofar no solutions though. We've gone through so many changes to set up etc etc etc that i couldnt now tell u what weve tried and whatwe havent. Everything is up to date, so firmware will be the latest on all devices. Im silly enough to believe that its necessary, though suspecting fast that its not.

So ive got the airport extreme green lit, the modem is connected to the net as per the led lights and tech support confirmation, but airport utility on imac reports that theres no internet connection. Safari wont load.

My question is this:  Is there anyone out there who is willing to send me a brand new imac 27inch, modem and airport express base station thats already been set up and working? I'm happy to pay postage :)

    Hey...if u dont ask, u will never get. :):)

    Thanks in advance!

Have you tried having your Internet provider come out for a service check to make sure it works where it's connect on the outside of your house? My Internet went out 2 weeks ago for no apparent reason and they came out and turned out to be that the fiber optic cable had been cut at the hub for our new housing development! Worth a shot to make that call! Good luck!

But i can get internet by simply connecting the ethernet cable to the ethernet port in the imac, so the internet is ok. Tne problem is that the internet wont connect to the airport extreme. :(
